t least five people were killed during a powerful flood in Sukakerti village in the regency of Subang, West Java, on Sunday.
West Java Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus said the police officers were now searching for a 10-year-old named Rizal. Three people were severely injured in the flood.
The flooding rocked the village while most residents were sleeping and, therefore, had no time to escape. The flood took away at least 16 houses.
Yusri said the team had rescued 388 residents to avoid the danger of further flooding. “We erected a disaster crisis center and a public kitchen at the Sukakerti village office,” Yusri added.
Meanwhile, Subang regency disaster management chairman, Jajang, said the flood had been the result of heavy rainfall around the nearby Mount Bukit Tunggul.
