MY GADGET; Lury Navira: Gadgets for Marketing and Designing

Young designer Lury Navira loves to incorporate different kinds of ornaments in the handbags she designs. This very feature, she believes, is what makes her handbags stand out. And she is proven right.

At the age of just 22, she owns her own brand, Box Out, which specializes in women’s clothing and handbags. Competing against 88 other designers, she was chosen as one of the “7 Rising Designers” to collaborate with HijUp — Indonesia’s leading Muslim Fashion online store — to release her special Ramadhan collection.

In her work, she relies heavily on gadgets.

“Back then, when technology wasn’t as prominent, I used to look through magazines for reference. But now, it’s entirely through gadgets,” Lury said.

“Pinterest, Instagram […] They’re really useful, because you can see the trending topics, for instance, what color is trendy this month? If for this month of Ramadhan the colors in trend are white and black, and then I release a yellow design, that’d be ridiculous,” she said.

Lury, who hails from Bandung in West Java, also relies on online magazines, like London Fashion Week.

“I would look at the bags and mix and match them with the ornaments I have on my mind,” she added.

Following are the gadgets she relies on most:

---------------

Canon EOS 600D

“This camera is very, very helpful. During special events, or just any kind of event in general, I like to take pictures using this camera, and afterwards I’d upload them to Instagram. Then people would comment on my products, like, “What’s that you’re wearing?”, or “That’s cute!” So, in many ways it’s for marketing purposes.”

---------------

Apple iPhone 6

“I really like it, because the quality of the photos it takes is very high. Also it rarely lags, which is nice.”

---------------

CorelDRAW

“It’s a program I have on my laptop that I use to do graphic design. For instance, if I have a photo of a product and I want to add text, like ‘This month’s promo, for x price you’d get y’, I’ll use this program. I can also try out different colors to see which ones are to my liking.”
