ata released by Jakarta Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat states that 6,072 city administration civil servants failed to show up at the office after the long Idul Fitri holiday.
Djarot said Monday that according to the same data, 1,733 civil servants showed up late for work on the first day and 32,108 showed up at the office on time. However, the deputy governor said the data should be rechecked as there were several punch clocks that needed repair.
“There is a possibility that some of them are actually at work today, but could not record their attendance because of the offline machines,” Djarot said Monday when he was carrying out an inspection at the civil servants’ offices, as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
Civil servants have been frequently criticized for their chronic absenteeism, especially during harpitnas, which is short for hari kejepit nasional (workdays stuck in-between national holidays), but in recent years the government has intensified efforts to boost their attendance.
Since last year the city administration has applied a punishment-and-reward system. In the new system, civil servants receive a point for each work assignment they complete.
