ank Indonesia (BI) has found indications of attempted fraud in the repayment of bank debts in a number of areas.
The fraud, using BI certificates (SBI) and other BI documents, is believed to have resulted in a large number of victims.
“Scalpers using BI’s name have run scams in a number of regions by offering to help victims repay their debts at banks. We urge the community to be careful and not to become victims,” said West Nusa Tenggara branch BI manager Prijono in Mataram on Monday.
He added that based on a letter from central BI, similar swindles had also occurred in Cirebon, West Java and Yogyakarta.
The mode of operation involves perpetrators using a particular institution or company, which claims able to issue SBI and other BI documents and promising the victims to help pay off their debts at banks easily and quickly, including paying off missed payments.
The victims are asked to become a member of the institution or company and are then induced to pay registration fees.
