Education is a privilege for some children who lack access to the most basic facilities for learning.

It is the case for the students of SDN Cobbuk elementary school in Curah Tatal village, Arjasa, East Java. The village is in a remote location; the nearest major town, Situbondo, is one-and-a-half hours away. The long distance and poor road condition to the area's main school, SDN 8 Curah Tatal, led to the establishment of the school in 2012.

There are two classrooms for the 32 students, who study from first to sixth grades. The classrooms are simply built, with dirt floors and wooden planks. The textbooks that are used do not meet education ministry standards. The two contract teachers receive a monthly payment of
Rp 100,000 (US$7.6).

The school has managed to graduate 10 students who are continuing their education at schools outside the village.

And still the children, many of them dressed simply and wearing sandals, come to study. When asked their future ambition, many say they wish to become teachers.
