team from the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (Lapan) is investigating mysterious objects that fell from the sky in Sumenep regency, East Java, a police official said on Wednesday.
The Lapan team consists of five people who arrived in Sumenep on Tuesday evening and coordinated with the police to investigate four drum-like capsules found on Giliraja Island and Giligenting Island, Sumenep Police chief Adj. Sr. Cmr. Joseph Ananta Pinor said as reported by Antara news agency.
Local people found four large black capsules after they fell from the sky on Monday.
Three of the drum-shaped objects were covered with what looked like black fibers, while the fourth looked more like a burned radiator and was covered in flakes. There were letters and figures written on the objects.
Local people who discovered the items immediately reported the findings and took the items to the Sumenep Police. Police personnel on Tuesday combed the sites where the objects were found in the hope of finding more clues, Joseph said.
Some of the objects destroyed a cowshed, but no casualties have been reported. (rin)
