ince being appointed as a spokeswoman for Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama and Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat’s campaign team, noted actress Sophia Latjuba has met the governor several times.

She attended all of the governor’s activities on Tuesday, including the launch of integrated child-friendly public spaces (RPTRA) near a low-cost apartment complex in Marunda, North Jakarta.

After the event, Ahok and Sophia headed back to City Hall in the same car. Sophie said she began getting to know Ahok after being appointed as a spokeswoman for the Ahok-Djarot campaign team in the lead-up to the gubernatorial election.

She said she did not share the opinion that the governor was arrogant, as he is sometimes perceived to be.

“You can see he is arrogant? I do not see it,” said the actress, who played in a number of movies in the late 1980s and early 1990s, including Catatan si Boy (Boy’s Note). She is now a politician for the NasDem Party.

Meanwhile, Ahok said he sought permission from his wife, Veronica Tan, before allowing Sophia to attend all of his scheduled activities on Tuesday.

“Why should I not be allowed to make friends with Sophia? Ibu Vero agreed. I have reported it to Ibu Vero. She said she didn’t mind,” he said regarding his wife, when responding to journalists’ questions in Marunda, as reported by kompas.com. (bbn)
