T

he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has said it was likely to question businessman Bambang Rudijanto Tanoesoedibjo, the brother of media mogul Hary Tanoesoedibjo, in its investigation into alleged irregularities related to the medical equipment procurement project at the Health Ministry in 2007.

“It is possible that we will question him [Rudijanto]. Our investigation will always follow the most recent information we obtain and the available evidence. We will continue to look into which parties are responsible for the irregularities,” KPK chairman Agus Rahardjo told journalists at the antigraft body’s headquarters in Jakarta on Monday.

The procurement project, worth Rp 40 billion (US$2.99 million), implicates former health minister Siti Fadilah Supari, who is accused of abusing her power by directly appointing a company owned by Rudijanto to handle the project.

Former director general of medical services at the ministry Ratna Dewi Umar, who was found guilty of enriching herself in the case and was sentenced to five years in prison in 2013, said she was instructed by Siti to directly propose Rudijanto’s company as the implementing party of the procurement project.

Rudijanto has repeatedly denied the allegation.

Speaking after a questioning session with KPK investigators last week, Siti denied that he had directly appointed any company. "A minister does not have any authority to appoint [a company]," she said, claiming that she was falsely accused by KPK prosecutors. (fac/ebf)
