According to the KPK prosecutors' indictment, former agriculture minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo transferred money totaling Rp 40 million on three separate occasions to the NasDem Party.
n indictment letter from Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) prosecutors against former agriculture minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo has alleged that the defendant transferred a portion of illicit money he obtained to the NasDem Party.
On Wednesday, prosecutors read their indictment against Syahrul, who is accused of soliciting bribes and accepting gratuities from his colleagues at the Agriculture Ministry. According to the KPK, he pocketed a total of Rp 44.5 billion (US$2.83 million) between January 2020 and October 2023.
Syahrul used the money for various purposes, including for his political advancement as he transferred around Rp 40.1 million to NasDem, according to a copy of the indictment obtained by The Jakarta Post.
The former minister transferred the money to the party on three separate occasions, said prosecutor Masmudi as he read the indictment: Rp 8.3 million in 2020, Rp 23 million in 2021 and Rp 8.8 million in 2022.
Prosecutors, however, did not state what the alleged transfers were intended for.
NasDem Party secretary-general Hermawi Taslim declined to comment on the prosecutors’ indictment in relation to the party, saying it was part of an ongoing trial.
“We’ll closely monitor the process in court until prosecutors read their sentence demand and the judges decide on their verdict in the case,” he told the Post on Thursday.
