ersonnel of the National Police’s Densus 88 counterterrorism squad searched a shop belonging to suspected terrorist Nur Solihin on Jl. Semen Romo, Cemani, Sukoharjo, Central Java, on Sunday afternoon.

From the two-hour search, the police confiscated documents, street banners and a motorcycle. Supervising the search, Sukoharjo Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Ruminio Ardano refused to give more details on confiscated items.

“On the details, I don’t know yet. The search was within the authority of the Densus 88. We, the Sukoharjo Police, only helped to secure areas around the location,” the police chief said. He only confirmed one of the terrorist suspects arrested in Bekasi, West Java, recently, was a Sukoharjo resident.

Apart from Nur Solihin, Agus Supriyadi, another terrorist suspect previously arrested by the Densus 88 personnel, was also reportedly from Sukoharjo. Sunday’s search by the anti-terror squad was to follow up its previous search at Nur Solihin’s house in Pajang, Laweyan, Surakarta, on the same day.

During the search, dozens of fully-equipped police personnel blocked streets leading to Nur Solihin’s kiosk. Hundreds of residents witnessed the search from a distance. Some of them claimed they did not expect that the tenant of the kiosk had been arrested by the police over his alleged involvement in a terrorism case in Jakarta.

Nur Solihin had rented the kiosk to sell basic necessities and water in gallons this past year. Local residents claimed they did not know him very well because he was reclusive.

“I shop there, but I hardly ever see him [Nur Solihin]. Each time I go there, I have been served only by his employees,” said Wardani, a Cemani resident, 34.

Nur and Agus were arrested near a walkway in Kalimalang, East Jakarta, after the police discovered bombs in a rice cooker in Bekasi. (ebf)
