part from improving air access to Lake Toba in North Sumatra, the government is also speeding up the development of the Medan-Kuala Namu-Tebing Tinggi toll road to facilitate and expand tourism in the area.

“Apart from developing the Silangit and Sibisa airports, toll road development is also being accelerated,” said Tourism Minister Arief Yahya in Jakarta on Wednesday as reported by tribunnews.com.

“Lake Toba will be more attractive because the infrastructure is being strengthened,” Arief added.

Meanwhile, state-owned toll road operator PT Jasa Marga’s vice president for corporate communications Dwimawan Heru expressed his optimism that the toll road, a section of the trans-Sumatra highway, would be completed on time.

“The toll road will connect Medan to the Kuala Tanjung industrial estate as well as to Lake Toba,” Dwi added.

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is promoting ten tourist destinations to try and boost the country’s tourist industry.

The other destinations include Bromo in East Java, Mandalika in West Nusa Tenggara, Tanjung Lesung in Banten, Morotai in Maluku, Thousand Islands regency and Yogyakarta. (bbn)
