Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi has said counterterrorism will be one of Indonesia’s diplomatic priorities in 2017.

“Indonesia will strengthen the Jakarta Centre for Law Enforcement Cooperation [JCLEC] as a center of excellence for counterterrorism training," Retno said during the Annual Press Statement 2017 at the ministry's office on Tuesday.

“Indonesia’s leadership at the global level will be continued, among other things, by cochairing the Task Force on Detention and Reintegration in the framework of the Global Counterterrorism Forum [GCTF],” she added.

During the Tuesday event, Retno also handed out Adam Malik Awards to several members of the media.

The Jakarta Post journalist Tama Salim received an award in the Best Journalist category.

Tama has been with the Post for over three years. In October last year he visited Syrian refugees at camps in Amman, Jordan.

Other recipients of the award were Kompas daily in the Best Print Media category, Antara news agency (Best Online Media), Metro TV (Best TV) and Elshinta radio station (Best Radio). (dmr)
