griculture Minister Amran Sulaiman said on Monday the central government had immediately responded to an anthrax outbreak in Yogyakarta, which is believed to have caused the death of a 9-year-old boy.
“A team from our ministry has been deployed to ensure that the suspected anthrax outbreak does not spread to other areas. We have acted swiftly, just like when suspected anthrax cases were found in Pontianak and Bali,” Amran said in Semarang, Central Java.
The minister also urged people to ensure that beef is cooked at a high temperature before it is consumed.
The victim from Godean, Sleman regency, died on Jan. 6, 2016 at Dr. Sardjito General Hospital in Yogyakarta from meningitis and is thought to have contracted Bacillus anthracis, the bacteria that causes anthrax.
