akarta gubernatorial election candidate Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, who is a former army major, launched on Tuesday a book he claimed would explain the reason behind his decision to run in the three-horse race.
In the book titled "Telah Kupilih Jalan Hidupku yang Baru untuk Jakarta" (I Have Chosen to Lead a New Life for Jakarta), Agus, who according to recent polls is now in last place in terms of support, said readers would know he had decided to leave what he called "the comfort zone of around 16 years being part of the military" in order to compete in the Jakarta election, which is scheduled for Feb. 15.

Agus claimed he had used "a little of his time" during the last 3.5 months of "braving the glaring sun and heavy rains" to make campaign visits to write the book.
"A lot of people said I had a bright career ahead of me in the military, but in the end I chose to dedicate myself to another front," Agus said during the book launch.
"But I will implement some values I've learned and carried during my life as a soldier if I am elected as governor," Agus said.
Recent surveys, including the Populi Center poll released on Monday, found that support for Agus and his running mate Sylviana Murni had dropped further after the second debate on Jan. 27. (trw)
