he Central Jakarta Transportation Agency plans to temporarily close Jl. Siantar to allow the construction of an overpass connecting the two buildings belonging to city-owned Tarakan General Hospital (RSUD Tarakan) on both sides of the road in the municipality.
“The closure will happen along Jl. Siantar; from Jl. Musi [in the west] to Jl. Cideng Timur [in the east],” agency head Harlem Simanjuntak was quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com as saying on Friday.
The road closure will take place very soon when workers start drilling the overpass foundation. The overpass is part of a project to expand RSUD Tarakan to 18 floors. The hospital expansion kicked off last Saturday and is slated to be completed in one year.
“For the time being, we are installing banners to provide directions around the road. We will close it as soon as the drilling begins,” Harlem said.
The expansion of RSUD Tarakan is estimated to cost Rp 243 billion (US$18.22 million) and will be financed from the city budget. (saf/dmr)
