he Central Sulawesi youth wing of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), GP Ansor and a local nursing academy have held a charity event for a church congregation in Sigi regency, Central Sulawesi, to promote tolerance.
The event included activities such as the distribution of free medicines to the members of the congregation from Doda village in Kinovaro district.
Head of Central Sulawesi GP Ansor Alamsyah Palenga said the charity event was a way to show concern for residents of the remote area. The event was also aimed at promoting tolerance and pluralism among interfaith communities.
“When we help people’s lives, we should not regard our identities, such as religion and race, as obstacles,” he told The Jakarta Post on Saturday.
The Central Sulawesi Health Agency along with the village and Palu administrations also joined the charity event.
Christian youth leader in Central Sulawesi, Yesiah Eri, said that humanitarianism never took into consideration religious differences.
“Humanitarianism should be prioritized [in solving problems]. We really appreciate the work of GP Ansor,” Yesiah said.
