The internal voting process involving Supreme Court justices on Feb. 14 re-elected Hatta with 38 out of 47 votes in favor of him. He beat other candidates Mukti Arto and Andi Samsan Nganro.
However, Hatta, 67, will only serve a three-year second term because he must retire at the age of 70 years in accordance with the 2009 Law on the Supreme Court.
Born in Pare-Pare, South Sulawesi, Hatta is the court's 13th chief. (hol/bbs)
