motorbike thief who sold more than 20 stolen motorbikes via social media was arrested at his rented house in Penjaringan, North Jakarta.
BAS, 18, sold the stolen motorbikes at very low prices.
“After having stolen the motorbikes, the suspect hid them in his house. Then he took pictures of them and uploaded the photographs to his social media accounts such as Facebook,” North Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Dwiyono said as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com on Wednesday.
Alongside the pictures of the stolen bikes, BAS listed the prices for them, which were far lower than market prices.
“All the motorbikes were sold in a heartbeat even without the proper certificates,” Dwiyono said.
Each motorbike was offered for around Rp 1 million (US$75) to Rp 2 million, he said.
BAS was shot in his left leg after resisting arrest.
BAS was allegedly accompanied by another man identified by the initials AD while stealing the motorbikes. AD has so far managed to evade arrest.
He is suspected of being a member of a syndicate that specializes in motorbike theft.
“We are going to go deeper into the case because we suspect that there are other syndicates who work with BAS,” he said. (dea)
