span lang="EN-US" style="mso-ansi-language:EN-US">National Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Martinus Sitompul revealed on Saturday that police have questioned 16 witnesses in connection to last week’s acid attack on top Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Novel Baswedan.
He added that a team comprising officers from the National Police and the Jakarta Police Criminal Investigation Department would question more witnesses and planned to collect a statement from Novel when he returned from Singapore, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
“We need more information from Novel, but we are waiting for his recovery,” he said as quoted by kompas.com.
Investigators have also analyzed CCTV footage taken from Novel’s house.

He is one of the lead investigators in an ongoing KPK probe into alleged corruption in the nationwide electronic ID project. The scandal has reportedly incurred Rp 5.9 trillion (US$440 million) in state losses, and implicated several members of the House of Representatives and high-ranking government officials. (dis/jun)
