resumptive Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan said he expected incumbent Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama to refrain from carrying out further evictions for the remainder of his tenure until October.
Anies said he and Ahok had a stark difference of opinion on evictions. “In relation to evictions, I have asked for a moratorium. I do not expect, however, that the administration will execute such a policy,” he said as quoted by kompas.com.
Anies highlighted the quick count result of the Jakarta election and suggested that most Jakartans wanted to see a change of policy in the city administration. Anies added that he also expected Ahok to make policies that were in line with his vision.
“The election result is clear. The residents vote for us because of our commitment to reorganizing them instead of just evicting them,” he asserted.
