Sentani Airport in Jayapura, Papua, had to delay flights for one hour after X-ray machines switched off at the airport
entani Airport in Jayapura, Papua, had to delay flights for one hour after X-ray machines switched off at the airport.
The disruption to the X-ray machines took place between 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., local time, forcing hundreds of passengers to wait in the departure building. They could not enter the waiting lounges because the machines were malfunctioning.
Several flights heading to various destinations such as Jakarta and Merauke were delayed following the incident.
Activities at the airport returned to normal after two hours.
Maj. Iwan Suebe, security coordinator at the Airport, said machines “died” following an electrical short circuit.
The decision to delay the flights was made by the pilots. Pilots do not want to fly if there are no safety guarantee, he said.
“But it went back to normal soon enough because now the airport officials took care of the electrical issues,” Iwan added.
