n a bid to clear sidewalks in the capital from street vendors, the Central Jakarta branch of the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) will deploy 500 additional officers.
Santoso, the operational head of Central Jakarta’s Satpol PP, said the officers would be stationed in 12 areas predicted to see more street vendors during the Ramadhan fasting month.
One of the areas is Tanah Abang Market in Central Jakarta, the largest textile market in Southeast Asia.
“Since Saturday, we have received 500 officers to guard 12 areas,” Santoso said as quoted by kompas.com on Tuesday.
During the annual fasting month, sidewalks in some areas are usually occupied by vendors selling goods.
