A

fire razed dozens of houses on Jl. Kedondong, Sunter Jaya subdistrict, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, on Friday, leaving 15 families homeless.

An official from the North Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency, Putut Jantoko, said the fire broke out at 10:29 a.m. and was extinguished an hour later. Poor access to the densely populated area hampered efforts to put out the fire, he added.

“We deployed five fire trucks and 25 personnel to put out the flames,” he said.

He estimated the incident had inflicted at least Rp 200 million (US$15,043) in losses.

“Our preliminary investigation suggests it was caused by an electrical short circuit,” Putut said as quoted by beritajakarta.id. (fac)
