he transition team of Jakarta governor-elect Anies Baswedan met with city administration officials on Tuesday to discuss the controversial Jakarta Bay reclamation project.
In the meeting, city officials discussed the ongoing progress and the background to the project.
However, after the meeting, the transition team said they had yet to decide whether or not the project would be terminated as promised by Anies.
"We have not concluded anything because we must also listen to the central government to gather a more complete picture of the project," Sudirman Said, the team's spokesman, told reporters after the meeting at City Hall.
He said the team would meet with the National Development Planning Board (Bappenas), the Environment and Forestry Ministry and the Office of the Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister before making a final decision to continue or cancel the project.
Asked whether the team would insist on halting the reclamation as promised by Anies during his election campaign earlier this year, Sudirman said: "Principally, our stance is yes. That is his mandate. However, we are looking for a way to optimize things that have been built so that they can be beneficial for residents."
