ational flag-carrier PT Garuda Indonesia claims that it has been able to keep its on-time performance above 90 percent for its domestic and international flights during this year’s Idul Fitri exodus season.
“Thankfully, our on-time performance is still above 90 percent. There were just some delays in international flights due to bad weather,” Garuda president director Pahala Nugraha Mansury said on Sunday while attending an Idul Fitri celebration at Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati’s official residence in Jakarta.
Indonesia is set to see 19 million people travel to their hometowns using public transportation during this year’s exodus, a 4.85 percent surge from a year ago.
Of the total figure, 5.4 million people are predicted to travel by airplane, up 9.8 percent annually.
Garuda has prepared around 280 extra flights and 2.1 million seats to cater to travelers in the two weeks before and after Idul Fitri, which falls on Sunday.
Pahala said Garuda had also prepared 38 self-service counters in Terminal 3 at Soerkarno-Hatta International Airport to facilitate faster check-in.
The company also expects to see better financial performance in the second quarter of 2017 following the Idul Fitri exodus.
In the first quarter, Garuda recorded a net loss of US$98.5 million, seeing a significant drop compared to the net profit of $1.02 million it booked in the same period last year. (tas)
