ocal residents known as Banggai Saluran Balantak (Babasal) in Luwuk, Banggai, Central Sulawesi, clashed on Thursday with people from Muna, Southeast Sulawesi.

The clash occurred after a male teenager, Nur Cholis Dayanun, a Luwuk resident, died after being attacked by nine people suspected to be Banggai residents from Muna. After Nur’s family informed their neighbors about the incident, the Babasal people united and raided a village whose residents mostly came from Muna. They shouted and called on people to kill Muna people as they searched the houses.

People working at the Luwuk port and crew members of vessels docked at the port also became targets of the search. The Babasal people sought workers and crew members from Muna. Some port workers escaped the Babasal people by jumping onto the vessels.
