ransportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi on Thursday appointed Bay Mokhamad Hasani as the ministry’s acting director general for sea transportation to replace Antonius Tonny Budiono, who was arrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Wednesday.
“I have issued an instruction to Bay Mokhamad Hasani to fill the position of acting sea transportation director general,” said Budi in Surakarta, Central Java, on Friday, as reported by news agency Antara.
Bay, who was previously sea traffic and transportation director at the Directorate General of Sea Transportation, will hold his new post until the ministry appoints the definitive official.

Budi expressed his concern over the arrest of his subordinate, saying he had sternly warned officials at his ministry not to get involved in any corruption. “On behalf of myself and the ministry, I offer my apology to the Indonesian people about the incident,” Budi added.
Antonius was arrested by KPK investigators on Wednesday night. He was accused of being involved in a bribery case in connection with project licenses issued by the Directorate General of Sea Transportation.
The anticorruption body also named PT Adhi Guna Keruktama commissioner Adiputra Kurniawan a suspect in the same case. (bbn)
