he Jakarta Police have arrested a man identified as TK for alleged fraud against 51 contract teachers, whom he reportedly promised civil servant positions to at a price.

According to the police, TK was assisted by SLH and HRLN.

TK allegedly claimed to be able to secure positions at the Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Ministry. He reportedly amassed up to Rp 1.8 billion (US$136,000) from 51 victims.

"TK promised a contract teacher who did not pass the selection in 2013 a civil servant position for Rp 60 million," police spokesperson Sr.Comr. Argo Yuwono said on Tuesday as quoted by tempo.co.

Argo further said that in 2014, contract teachers from Jakarta, Brebes in Central Java and Sumedang in West Java had been made an offer and filled out applications for civil servant positions.

They only realized they were being deceived when TK said the employee intake would be announced through print media and the internet by the end of April 2014, however, as of May that year, no such announcements had been made. The application form they had filled out was also not an official form from the ministry. (wnd)
