Belarus, a land-locked country in Eastern Europe, recently appointed Valery Kolesnik, a senior career diplomat, as its new ambassador to Indonesia, fourth-most populous nation in the world.
“Mr. Valery Kolesnik was appointed as Ambassador of Belarus to Indonesia by the President of Belarus on Sept. 14. Ambassador-designate Kolesnik arrived in Jakarta on Friday and he will submit his credentials to Indonesian President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo soon,” Belarus Embassy’s charge d’affaires Dzmitry Samusevich told The Jakarta Post on Friday in Jakarta.
Kolesnik joined the foreign service in 1995, just after completing his military service from 1986 to 1994. He graduated from the Belarus High Military Institute in 1986.
During his more than two decade-long distinguished diplomatic career, Kolesnik has served in various positions, including as Belarus Ambassador to Turkey in Ankara (2008-2013) and as councilor at the Belarus Embassy in Brussels (2000-2014), in Minsk and other cities.
While working at the Belarus Foreign Ministry, Kolesnik spent almost 10 years in handling matters related to international security and arms control.
Prior to coming to Jakarta, Kolesnik worked as head of department of trade policy at the Belarus Foreign Ministry.
