s many as 90,737 residents in Bogor, West Java, do not own a birth certificate, with West Bogor district home to the highest number of residents without a birth certificate, an official has said.
The head of information, administration, population and data utilization division of the Civil Registration and Population Agency (Disdukcapil) of Bogor, C Ari Setyaningsih, said on Wednesday that her agency's data was taken from an observation of residents aged 0 to 18.
"West Bogor has 19,253 residents with no birth certificates, while Central Bogor district is the area with the smallest number of residents with no birth certificate, with only 8,996 residents," Ari said, as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.
She added that her agency had made efforts to accelerate the issuance of birth certificates.
The agency aimed to provide certificates to 85 percent of targeted residents by the end of the year.
"We issue 150 birth certificates a day. If we want to achieve the target, we should release 400 certificates a day," she added.
She said the residents had been informed about the importance of having the certificates, but that there were still some who only cared about the certificates when they needed them.
"Our only problem lies in the machine. If the server is down, the machine can only produce 100 certificates," Ari said. (rdi)
