Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono said the decision was made after the police found indications that they committed criminal acts during the protest. Two suspects, identified only as IM and MAS, were detained, he added.
“For now, we only detained two of the suspects,” Argo said on Monday.
They were charged under Article 160 of the Criminal Code on provocation and articles 216 and 218 on disobeying police orders, kompas.com reported.
The protestors, comprising laborers and college students, turned violent after they refused to be dispersed at around 12 a.m. They demanded to meet Jokowi in person to convey their thoughts. (fac)
