In an effort to expand his business interests in Indonesia, the founder and chairman of the Wesley Clover International Sir Terence Natthews (second right in the photo), a Canadian billionaire, recently visited Indonesia.
Founded in 1972 by Matthews, Wesley Clover, a leading investment management firm and holding company, has funded more than 110 companies across the globe.
Canadian Ambassador to Indonesia Peter MacArthur hosted a reception in honor of Matthews’ visit on Thursday at his residence.
Matthews’ company has interests in a broad range of next-generation of ICT companies, real estate, leisure properties and philanthropic activities.
He also founded the Wesley Clover Foundation, a non-profit philanthropic organization, to support entrepreneurship, healthcare, education and community initiatives.
Matthews, who previously established world-class companies like Mitel – a global leader in the design and manufacture of enterprise communications systems and software – as well as New bridge Networks, a company that specializes in the data networking industry, is also the founder of the Alacrity Global Initiative.
Alacrity provides a platform for investors, academic institutions, entrepreneurs and governments to create technology start-up funds around the globe.
“We are working with our partners in China, India, Mexico, Singapore and Indonesia, Matthews told The Jakarta Post at the reception.
Ambassador MacArthur commended Mathews for picking Indonesia for the Alacrity Global Initiative.
“Indonesia has huge potential for start-up companies. We already have successful start-up companies like GoJek and Traveloka,” MacArthur said.
The reception was attended by Canadian Ambassador to ASEAN Marie-Louise Hannan, Indonesian business leaders, government officials and investors.
