The 2017 She’s Mercedes Ladies Golf tournament found Jamilah and Audy Smith as the stars of the one-day competition after they were declared the Best Gross Overall and Best Net Overall winners, respectively.

Based on stroke play, Jamilah scored 81 for the best gross, while Audy garnered 71 for the best net among a total of 73 participants at the tourney, which was held at Pondok Indah Golf Course in South Jakarta on Thursday.

“I came [to Jakarta] for the event and a three-week long holiday with my family,” Audy, 39, told The Jakarta Post after the match.

She added that golfing became part of her life when her husband introduced her to the sport 15 years ago.

Audy, who has been living on the Gold Coast, Australia, for five years, said her husband encouraged her to learn the sport so both of them could spend their weekends together.

“From Monday to Friday, my husband went to work. Weekends he played golf and I didn’t get much time to spend with him. One day, he suggested that I learn how to play golf. Now I love the sport more than my husband does,” added Audy with a laugh.

A proud Audy said she is now a better golfer than her
husband. “My handicap is already four, while his is still at seven.”

A big fan of Andy Scott, Australia’s former world number one, she added that she follows all the tournaments. She even noticed that Indonesia will host a season-ending event — the Indonesian Masters 2017 — in Jakarta next week, and quickly named Briton Justin Rose as a participant.

Audy hoped that for more Indonesian golfers, especially
the ladies, reach the world stage.

“I know we’ve got some potential at junior level. Pressure is what these juniors need to level-up, and they can get that pressure if they play abroad,” said Audy, who regularly practices at the Sanctuary Cove Golf Course.

The 2017 edition was the second event hosted by Mercedes-Benz Indonesia, providing women with interest in golf an opportunity to get together.

“With the ‘She’s Mercedes’ campaign, Mercedes-Benz is committed to continuously create activities tailored for women,” said Roel of Lamberts, the president and CEO of PT Mercedes-Benz Distribution Indonesia.

He said he believed that hosting the ladies golf event would offer a suitable platform to channel the interest of the car’s female customers as well as prospects in Indonesia.

“Given the unique attributes of ‘She’s Mercedes Ladies Golf’ that combines sport and leisure with charity, we are pleased to welcome even more enthusiastic lady golfers than before,” Lamberts added. The country’s top celebrity chef, Farah Quinn, also took part in the competition and said she had a blast with the ladies on the course.

The tourney also offered a “Beat the Pro” challenge, featuring Indonesian pro golfer Danny Masrin.
