n Indonesian cyclist was found dead in a ravine around Uttarakhand, India near the border of Nepal, roughly a week after he had gone missing during a solo journey across mainland Southeast Asia.
The Foreign Ministry’s director for overseas citizen protection, Lalu Muhammad Iqbal, confirmed the report on Sunday, saying the case was currently being handled by the Indonesian Embassy in New Delhi.
Iqbal said the mission in New Delhi was in the process of repatriating the body of Nafal Quryanto, a cycling enthusiast from Bogor, West Java, who appeared to have died in an accident as he pushed through the last leg of a trip that was supposed to end in Nepal.
“The embassy in New Delhi has already dealt with [the case], even though the site of the accident is remote,” Iqbal told The Jakarta Post. “Because the deceased died outside the care of a hospital and was alone, some administrative work remains to be resolved.”
The 28 year-old’s death was first reported to the family by the Indonesian mission in New Delhi earlier this week, Wahyu Indarto, Nafal’s brother-in-law, was quoted by Tempo as saying.
Nafal embarked on his solo cycling trip from Bogor at the end of June this year.
