program to grant students free entrance to the Taman Impian Jaya Ancol amusement park in North Jakarta is hampered by the fact that many appear to be unaware of the requirements.
The program grants students carrying the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) free admission based on the city’s region they are from.
Junior high school student Aulia,14, from North Jakarta visited Ancol on Saturday and showed her KJP at the counter, but failed to get in for free, because she had come at the wrong time.
She was told that, during the third week of the month, only students from West Jakarta enjoyed free admission to the amusement park.
“I showed it but was not admitted, because North Jakarta students get free entrance in the first week,” Aulia said, as quoted by kompas.com.
Aulia added that she knew about the free entrance for KJP holders, but not about the fact that it depended on a rotating schedule based on the city region. She then decided to buy the ticket for Rp 25,000 (US$1.8), as did her friends.
Ticket booth attendant Wina explained that many residents were not aware of the program, hence Ancol management had installed banners beside the counters to inform people about the program. Some people were seen reading the banners and asking attendants about it.
“Some people do know about [the rotation], but many more do not,” she said.
The free entrance for KJP holders only applies on Saturday, Sunday and school holidays.
In the first week, the free entry is granted to students from North Jakarta, Central Jakarta and Thousand Islands, in the second week it applies to East Jakarta, in the third week to West Jakarta and in the last week to students from South Jakarta.
The program was launched on Dec.1. KJP holders also can use some facilities and visit some spots inside Ancol for free, such as the Wara Wiri bus, the Sato-Sato tourist train, Ancol beach, Fitness Park and the green-open space Allianz Ecopark.
Furthermore, one companion per KJP holding elementary or junior high school student will also get free entrance. (wnd)
