program to grant students free entrance to the Taman Impian Jaya Ancol amusement park in North Jakarta has been met with confusion about the requirements.
The program grants students carrying Jakarta Smart Cards (KJP) free admission on a rotating basis between different areas of the city.
Junior high school student Aulia, 14, from North Jakarta visited Ancol on Saturday and showed her KJP at the counter, but did not get in for free, because she had come at the wrong time.
She was told that, during the third week of the month, only students from West Jakarta could enjoy free admission to the amusement park.
“I showed it but was not admitted, because North Jakarta students get free entrance in the first week,” Aulia said, as quoted by kompas.com.
Aulia added that she knew about the free entrance for KJP holders, but not that it was based on a rotating schedule between the city’s regions. She decided to buy the ticket for Rp 25,000 (US$1.8), as did her friends.
Ticket booth attendant Wina explained that many residents were not aware of the program, hence Ancol management had installed banners beside the counters to inform people about the program. Some people were seen reading the banners and asking attendants about it.
“Some people do know about [the rotation policy], but many more do not,” she said.
