Jakarta schools get ready for ‘e-rapor’

F

ollowing the Education and Culture Ministry’s launch of the e-rapor (electronic report card) program for senior high school students in 2016 and its latest version upgrade in December, many schools are switching to the program.

The latest version of the program includes an expanded grading template, validation system for user login and data migration from the previous version.

Muhammad Husin, an official in charge of secondary school curriculum at the Jakarta Education Agency, said the e-rapor program’s integrated database allowed teachers to input grades easily.

We’re still perfecting the system, so the e-rapor program will continue to be upgraded.

Prior to the e-rapor program, high schools in Jakarta used its predecessor, the school administration system (SAS), to input scores electronically.

However, SAS required teachers to input grades both into the SAS and education ministry’s data center.

“We’re still perfecting the system, so the e-rapor program will continue to be upgraded.” Husin said.

Husin said teachers had adjusted quickly to the program. “SAS has been used in Jakarta since 2005 so teachers are used to a program like this.” he said.

The Jakarta Education Agency has provided training on the e-rapor program to IT operators from different schools.

“We [Jakarta Education Agency] never force high schools to immediately change their whole grading system. Though we highly encourage them since this system is free and easy-to-use.” Husin said.

“We’re slowly progressing, but I promise the system will improve in every upgrade.” he added.

Maman Ruhiman, the head of curriculum at SMK 13 state vocational high school, told The Jakarta Post that while his school was still using SAS, he planned to switch to the e-rapor program in the next academic year.

“The e-rapor system is more complex than SAS. Most of us are still grasping how it works.” he said.

Ridnan Wardianto, the head of curriculum at SMA 78 state high school, said the e-rapor system was only being used in his school to input the grades of 10th graders, as a credit system was used in the 11th and 12th grade, making it difficult to store data on the e-rapor program, he said.

In the credit system, students are allowed to choose their own courses and study plan. SMA 78 state high school is among 15 high schools in Jakarta implementing the credit system.

“If we want to use the e-rapor program to input 11th and 12th graders’ scores, we have to alter the whole credit system.” Ridnan said. (dpk)
