akarta Governor Anies Baswedan has been appointed to head the Greater Jakarta Coordinating Board (BKSP Jabodetabekjur) to replace previous head Wahidin Halim, the governor of Banten.
The duty handover was held at the Banten administration office on Monday.
"Insya Allah [God Willing] Jakarta will be serious in managing the BKSP and improve cooperation [among members]. This is the mandate from the state that we have to fulfill," Anies said in his speech as reported by kompas.com.
The board was established based on Presidential Instruction No. 13/1976 on Greater Jakarta's development. It stipulates that the body should, among other things, serve to develop the area to enable residents to have equal job opportunities.
The Jakarta administration has channeled donations to its neighboring areas to tackle, among other things, flooding and garbage issues since 2010.
The board works not only in Jakarta but also Bogor, Bekasi and Depok cities as well as Cianjur, Bogor and Bekasi regencies in West Java, and Tangerang and South Tangerang cities and Tangerang regency in Banten.
Provincial leaders take turns heading the board for a three-year term. (fac)
