After finishing the 2017 badminton season with a National Badminton Championships title, junior shuttler Ikhsan Leonardo Imanuel Rumbay is setting his sights on a strong showing at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in October.
“I want to achieve more this year. My next target is to win [at] the Youth Olympics,” said Ikhsan during the Djarum Badminton Club awards ceremony in Jakarta on Thursday.
Ikhsan, who was recently selected as a national team player, was awarded Best Player by the club.
“The award motivates me to improve my performance in the next tournament,” said the 17-year-old, who was rewarded with Rp 15 million [US$1,117] in prize money for winning the national championships and Rp 25 million for winning Best Player.
Djarum Foundation program director Yoppy Rosimin said the club enjoyed a fine year in 2017 as it won several titles at both the national championships and World Championships.
Besides Ikhsan, Djarum also gave awards to Alya Rahma and duo Febby Valencia and Lisa Ayu, who respectively won the women’s singles and women’s doubles titles at the national championships.
