The Jakarta administration plans to train and certify all babysitters to eliminate child abuse in the city.
According to Jakarta Health Agency head Koesmedi Priharto the administration was set to issue regulations about the certification.
“All babysitters must undergo a certification, so they don’t beat the children,” Koesmedi said on Thursday, according to wartakota.tribunnews.com.
The administration would sanction any residents employing uncertified babysitters, he added.
Further, the administration would intensify its monitoring of all babysitters in the city, Koesmedi said.
The Jakarta Women's Empowerment, Family Planning and Child Protection Agency revealed that there were 964 cases of women and child abuse in the city last year.
Sixty percent were child abuse cases.
Meanwhile in 2016, 1,316 women and children were victims of abuse with 40 percent of the cases affecting children. (cal)
