government official has expressed his regret that few people see India’s potential in education, even though the country has expertise in the fields of IT, management and accounting.
Indonesian Ambassador to India Sidharto R. Suryodipuro said only 150 Indonesians were currently studying in the whole of India.
“It seems that most people still have a perspective of seeing India from one side only, from Bollywood movies,” he said, adding that many international startups around the world were established by people of Indian descent. “Most Indonesians still do not seem to take Indian institutions into account when it comes to studying.”
India, Sidharto said, was a few steps ahead of Indonesia in terms of technological development, which was why its educational institutions on information technology were more developed.
Responding to the issue, he added, the Indonesian Embassy in New Delhi would encourage the Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP), which is currently managed by the Finance Ministry, to put more Indian institutions on its list.
He also said he planned to connect higher institutions from the two countries to establish cooperation, so that there would be more student exchanges.
In addition, he planned to approach the Indian government to provide more scholarships for Indonesian students limited to the three expertise fields.
