Police have arrested a man for allegedly stealing valuables in cars in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta.
The suspect, identified only as MA, was arrested at an internet cafe in Kalibaru, North Jakarta, on Tuesday.
Tanjung Priok Police crime division head Adj. Comr. Moh Faruk Rozi said on Wednesday that the arrest was made after a robbery victim, identified only as KF, reported the crime after belongings were stolen from their car near a power plant in the area.
“The suspect admitted to stealing from KF’s car at night,” said Faruk as quoted by kompas.com.
“MA was on the lookout and he was the getaway driver, while his accomplice was suspected to be the one doing the breaking in and stealing,” said Faruk, alleging that the duo previously committed crimes in several locations in Bekasi and East Jakarta.
Police have confiscated several pieces of evidence from MA, including several handbags, 12 vehicle ownership documents, several ID cards, as well as a flashlight and a screwdriver.
The suspect's alleged accomplice is still at large. (jlm/wit)
