newly established association has called on Indonesians of Indian descent to be more active in and contribute to society.
Chairman of the Indonesian Community of Indian Descent Care, Karan Soekarno Walia, said the organization was set up on Feb. 19 as a communication forum for Indians who reside or were born in Indonesia.
“We want to help fellow humans without discrimination based on race and religion to develop caring for Indonesians of Indian descent as part of the pluralist Indonesian community,” he told The Jakarta Post over the weekend.
Karan said he also urged Indonesians of Indian descent to become more politically active by taking part in elections.
“I know that many of the Indonesian of Indian descent have never participated in elections saying that they prefer to focus on their professional lives instead,” he said.
“I have encouraged them to be more active politically.”
