tate-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) will start the construction of a third runway at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in March, AP II spokesman Yado Yarismano has said.
“We have not decided the date yet, but we are preparing the groundbreaking,” said Yado at the airport in Tangerang, Banten, on Thursday as reported by Warta Kota, adding that the construction would take place over 16 months.
The project occupies 216 hectares, 90 percent of which has been acquired.
Financed by the state budget, the project is designed to accommodate large planes such as Boeing 777s.
The third runway will be able to accommodate increased traffic at the airport, which currently records 72 movements per hour, he added.
He said AP II was finalizing the acquisition of the remaining 10 percent of land needed for the project. “We hope it will take place smoothly so that we can meet the project completion target,” he added. (bbn)
