T

he government has announced a plan to launch a new terminal dedicated to low-cost carriers (LCC) by the end of first quarter 2026 at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, the country’s main port of entry by air.

The announcement came as President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated on Sunday the airport’s newly renovated haj and umrah (minor haj) terminal as thousands of Indonesians started departing to Saudi Arabia for the annual pilgrimage.

“We understand that many of our pilgrims are elderly and need proper care,” Prabowo said during the new terminal’s inauguration, according to a statement from the Presidential Secretariat.

Located at Soekarno-Hatta Terminal 2F, the new haj terminal is the key embarkation point for the world’s largest Muslim-majority country and can serve up to 6.1 million pilgrims annually.
