t least six female students of a local junior high school in Malang, East Java, filed charges against the school’s headmaster for alleged sexual abuse.
The students, who are in grades 7, 8 and 9, reported the headmaster to the police, Malang Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Yade Setiawan said.
The alleged sexual abuse started in January when the students enrolled for martial arts classes.
“We have arrested the headmaster to prevent mass violence by the public. We have also named him as a suspect,” Yade said on Wednesday.
Social worker Zuli Abidin, who accompanied the students, said the six girls were traumatized after the alleged abuse.
Yade explained that the alleged abuse took place in the suspect’s office.
He could be charged with the 2014 law on child protection that carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
The students and their families have received counseling.
