16-year-old boy who threatened to shoot President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in a video that went viral has been charged with violating the Electronic Information and Transactions Law.
“We charged the suspect under Article 27 of Law No. 19/2006 on electronic information and transactions, which carries a maximum six-year prison sentence,” Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono said on Friday as reported by Kompas.com.
While holding up a picture of Jokowi, the shirtless teenager, identified only as RJ also known as S, ranted about Jokowi and said he would not only shoot but also shackle Jokowi and burn down the President’s house in a 19-second video.
Argo said that because the suspect was still a minor, he was taken to the Marsudi Putra Handayani Social Shelter in Cipayung, East Jakarta, rather than being detained at the Jakarta Police headquarters.
“At midnight we put him there, but the police can still pursue his case,” Argo said.
He said that the police had summoned the Indonesian Child Protection Commission chief Susanto as an expert witness in the case. Argo said that Susanto recommended that RJ write a public apology for his actions because he was still a minor.
“We have also questioned five of the suspect’s friends. We are still going to summon other witnesses,” Argo said. (ami)
