Actress Maudy Koesnaedi celebrated Eid as a minority when she visited her husband Erik Meijer’s hometown in the Netherlands.
“It was very different because there weren’t many people who celebrated Eid. The men went to Eid prayers, while the women stayed at home to prepare the food with their family,” Maudy said as quoted by kapanlagi.com.
According to Maudy, her family also had to forego the tradition of meeting one’s neighbors, as she only met and dined with her Turkish in-laws.
“Many members of my husband’s family are Muslim because they are married to Turks, so when Eid rolls around we celebrate it with Muslim family members in the Netherlands,” said the actress, who rose to prominence in the 1990s when playing Zaenab in the Si Doel Anak Betawi (Doel the Betawi Kid) TV series.
