A newborn boy was found alive on Thursday evening under a pile of trash in an alley located in Pejaten, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta.
The baby, estimated to be just 2 or 3 days old, was discovered by resident Ahmad Hermanto, who first heard the infant’s cries at around 6 p.m. but thought it was the wailing of a cat.
He heard the sound again at around 7 p.m., but louder.
“Hermanto followed the sound to a pile of trash on Daeng lane, which is quite narrow and can only be passed by one motorcycle. The witness found the baby, who was still alive,” Pasar Minggu Police chief Comr. Harsono said on Friday as reported by kompas.com.
The infant had been wrapped in a brown batik cloth.
Hermanto reported his finding to the subdistrict office, which then notified a Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) officer stationed nearby.
“The witness took the baby to Siaga Hospital in South Jakarta for a medical examination,” Harsono said.
Also on Thursday, a baby girl believed to be 3 months old was found in an alley in Palmerah, West Jakarta.
She is currently being examined at the Palmerah community health center (Puskesmas), and will be taken to the Asuhan Anak Balita Tunas Bangsa orphanage for further care and treatment. (ami)
