ozens of parents have complained about a "glitch" in the enrollment system that prevented them from enrolling their children at public schools across the capital.

The parents said the system refused to verify their citizenship identity number (NIK), so they could not complete and submit their children's application forms.

Acting Jakarta Education Agency head Bowo Irianto said the problem did not ensue from a system glitch, but because of a problem with the data at the Jakarta Population and Civil Registration Agency (Dukcapil).

"Problems related to ID card verification should be reported to the Dukcapil, not to us," Bowo said on Monday as quoted by tempo.co.

He said parents that encountered the problem could report to a special post the city administration had established at SMK 1 senior high school in Central Jakarta.

They could consult with the Dukcapil officers at the post and finish enrolling their children there, he added.

Wahyudi, 38, visited the post to complain about a problem he faced while enrolling his child in elementary school, and was told by the Dukcapil officers that the NIK number was valid.

"They said there was an error in the system. It made me confused," he said.

Asikin, 31, who also visited the post, said he could not enroll his child because his family card  (KK) was only issued in May.

The Dukcapil officers told him that the card should be issued at the latest in January 2018 if he wanted to enroll his child in public school, he said. (cal)
